About Career Discovery 2016

Career Discovery 2016 will be a fun, educational, hands-on experience for all public, private, and home-schooled eighth grade students in Region 5 (Autauga, Bullock, Chambers, Coosa, Dallas, Elmore, Lee, Lowndes, Macon, Montgomery, Perry, Russell, and Tallapoosa counties).

Regional industries and businesses highlight and create hands-on interactions that link careers to the classroom and provide students an overview of career opportunities available in the area, showcased in 11 career clusters:

  • Agriculture
  • Architecture and Construction
  • Communication and Information Technology
  • Education and Training
  • Hospitality, Tourism and Recreation
  • Manufacturing
  • Automotive Manufacturing
  • Healthcare
  • Public Service (Law, Police, Fire, Corrections, Military, etc.)
  • Transportation, Distribution and Logistics
  • Energy and Utilities

Career Discovery 2017 will welcome over 5,000 students, teachers, counselors, parent chaperones, volunteers, sponsors, partners, and exhibitors.

Upon completion of Career Discovery 2017, students will have career alternatives to consider when developing their career portfolios.

Dates and Location of Career Discovery 2016:

Dates: Thursday, September 14 and Friday, September 15, 2017
Location: Southern Union State Community College, Opelika Campus

Special Event:

Career Discovery 2017 College and Career Event for high school juniors and seniors will be held on September 14 2017, 2:30pm - 7:00pm (CST).
